Cats of Iraklia

This story has been sent to us by Mike from ‘Cats of Iraklia’.

I am writing to inform you of another cat that has been spayed by the Cats of Iraklia project thanks to the financial support of the Greek Cats Welfare Society.

The Cats of Iraklia now supports more than 200 spayed or neutered cats on this tiny Greek island, enabling them to enjoy a much better quality of life than anyone could have dreamed of before 2017 when they were founded.

This is the 10th cat we have spayed or neutered thanks to your help.

The name of the cat is Boukia.

She was found last December on the streets of the port village with a terrible eye infection and our kind volunteer and nurse Kia took her home and cared for her, giving her a foster home.

With support from the nearest vet on the neighbouring island of Naxos, she was treated and while the eye is damaged, the infection has healed.

She recently went to the vet to be spayed and she also received treatment for a uterus infection. She has now returned home and is recovering nicely.

She is growing up happily, playing all the time and with an enormous appetite.

We all love a happy ending and we are now getting everything ready for her to be adopted and go to a new forever home with a lovely family in Italy who are picking her up next month.

There was a gap between the 10th cat being spayed and cats eight and nine because our wonderful ferry Express Skopelitis which travels between Iraklia and Naxos most days, was having its annual refit for much of last month.

We were then hit by high winds and rough seas which prevented the ferry from sailing – such is island life but we wouldn’t change it for anything!

Thank you for all your support which is very much appreciated and helping the cats on our tiny Greek island live much healthier and happier lives.

Donation

If you could donate any amount to our charity, every little counts and will help the cats of Greece. Thank you.
